I appreciate the kind comments from AAAS members who
emailed me.

Some have asked if I have a blog.
Therefore I have restarted CommonSense to
carry something like the AAAS discussions.

It won't be complaints about AAAS, unless
be posting my usual topics and comments.

Since this takes time away from writing my books
I will wait through the weekend to see if
there is any interest either by adding comments
or suggesting in comments new topics for discussion.

Being semi-retired I am mostly pursuing those 
venues which promise the most readership.

I will add a new topic in the blog when something
catches my eye, mostly in the area of science.

If there isn't sufficient interest in this blog, those who want
members, If not free, they are all priced as low as possible.

Good idea. I think the notion of the censorship in the commentaries, and its relation to censorship in the magazine itself is a very interesting one.

Does Anyone Still Answer Their Phone?

Today I did my weekly cleanup of phone messages. I change my phone number every two years but the nonsense calls build up to an intolerable level after about 14 months. Today there were 27 saved messages from unanswered calls, some from humans (sort of), a couple from someone speaking Hindustani, and some from computers, all from three companies selling things I would never buy. I live in the country and we know what to do with door-to-door salesmen. Between large hungry dogs and shotguns paired with a backhoe. Climate Change, Too Late To Beg Politicians - Time To Follow The Pentagon And Begin Preparation For The Inevitable.

 As for climate change, I worked on it for decades even in an official capacity as an emergency management coordinator. It is too late to change what will happen by 2050. Politicians simply can't move fast enough, even countries which agreed with the Paris agreement have totally failed to  to meet the goals they agreed to. It is time to stop wasting time, money, and effort on fighting short term climate change and focus our energy on preparing for inevitable financial and social changes we or our descendants will face. Nature Magazine Says No COVID-19 Herd Immunity. Also, NO FLU was bad news.

U.S. adults getting vaccines sounds great but, BUT, there is no vaccine for kids so herd immunity requires 98% of all adults being vaccinated. Many Republicans and others are refusing to get the vaccine to the tune of about 20% of Americans who WON'T get any of the vaccines. Variants are getting worse and the next one may ignore all the vaccines. You get those mutations/variants when there are lots of infections.
