Game: Boring until the last 5 minutes, then great.

Ads: Mostly boring with an occasional ad in incredibly and
disgustingly bad taste.

Lesson? A wardrobe malfunction brings Congress down on you but it is
OK to rip out a young woman's beating heart. Probably not appropriate
to show during a game unless it is American (we haven't actually
killed anyone yet) Gladiators.

Does Anyone Still Answer Their Phone?

Today I did my weekly cleanup of phone messages. I change my phone number every two years but the nonsense calls build up to an intolerable level after about 14 months. Today there were 27 saved messages from unanswered calls, some from humans (sort of), a couple from someone speaking Hindustani, and some from computers, all from three companies selling things I would never buy. I live in the country and we know what to do with door-to-door salesmen. Between large hungry dogs and shotguns paired with a backhoe. If I ever answered one of these calls I would still be cursing the caller as my BP went up and up so I never, NEVER answer my phone. There were 7 non sales calls, all from my insurance company, UPMC which is a great insurance plan EXCEPT FOR THE VOLUME OF NONSENSE CALLS they force on me almost daily. H5N1 Strain Kills 19-year-old in China

For those who have fogotten, Bird Flu (specifically the H5N1 strain) is a major threat to the world's population. The last major pandemic in WWI killed about 100 million and there is really no better treatment today if/when a pandemic strikes. About the only good treatment is supportive - that is, putting patients on breathing assistance, but in a pandemic there will only be a few machines to share out among each 1,000 patients. Bird Flu is most dangerous to the young with strong immune systems. Climate Change, Too Late To Beg Politicians - Time To Follow The Pentagon And Begin Preparation For The Inevitable.

 As for climate change, I worked on it for decades even in an official capacity as an emergency management coordinator. It is too late to change what will happen by 2050. Politicians simply can't move fast enough, even countries which agreed with the Paris agreement have totally failed to  to meet the goals they agreed to. It is time to stop wasting time, money, and effort on fighting short term climate change and focus our energy on preparing for inevitable financial and social changes we or our descendants will face. Working to make long-term changes would be  useful but that will occur naturally as Red states are washed away (GRIN). I wrote a book about this and am working on the second volume now.
